CDU BobickLaw enforcement officer Brian Bobick is enrolled in the BA in Theology program. He is a police sergeant in Washington, DC, where he has served for 15 years. Brian facilitates scripture studies in his parish in his free time, and he and his wife are expecting a child in the coming months.

“I explored several online universities, such as Augustine and Christendom. CDU was exclusively on-line and exclusively theology, and it has a great line-up of qualified professors,” he says. Being in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area, he also appreciated that CDU was local.

Brian was drawn to the study of theology by his interest in apologetics and evangelization. “I am determined to learn as much as I can in order to explain the Faith in word and deed,” he says.

“There are many misunderstandings about Christianity in general and the Church, especially from within the Church,” Brian says. “I am determined to learn as much as I can to protect and defend those in the Church from misunderstandings and help them discern to stay in communion.”

“When the opportunity arises, I won't back down to explain the faith,” he says, “However, I do need to be careful as I work in government,” he adds.  Brian finds himself defending the Faith in casual and friendly conversations with colleagues, and he finds that his studies are fostering his virtue of charity. “The more I learn about the Faith, the more I love God, and then the more I love neighbor. Theology illuminates my faith, which illuminates my love for God's creation,” he says.

Brian has been discerning the diaconate since he was young. He expects to continue to discern for now until the time is right to pursue that path, which may be when he retires. He is also open to serving as a faith formation director or Scripture teacher in retirement.

Once Brian completes the program, he is looking forward to contemplating  the knowledge he has gained in quality contemplative prayer.
