Academic Mass marks beginning of January 2012 term
The Celebration of the Mass of the Holy Spirit has been a tradition at universities going back to the Middle Ages when universities had an integrated view of what a university is -- a place where one rigorously pursues truth because the truth is Jesus Christ. It is important to remember that study at a university is not a sideline but is an extension of one’s baptismal call to follow Christ. In Pope John Paul II’s words: “A Catholic University's privileged task is "to unite existentially by intellectual effort two orders of reality that too frequently tend to be placed in opposition as though they were antithetical: the search for truth, and the certainty of already knowing the fount of truth"(Ex corde ecclesiae)
The Mass of the Holy Spirit will take place on Wednesday January 11, 2012 to mark the beginning of the January 2011 term. All are invited to join us in spirit for this celebration by praying the Prayer to the Holy Spirit, written by Saint Augustine of Hippo.
