Those who teach with authority change lives. Children, young people, and adults eagerly respond to knowledgeable and trained catechists. This training takes commitment, dedication, confidence, and zeal. With the Advanced Catechist Certificate (ACC) program, CDU can help lay volunteers, religion teachers, and parents become true catechists – those trained to teach the Faith with wisdom and knowledge.

The Advanced Catechist Certificate (ACC) will be awarded for completing the following series of continuing education courses within 4 years. This certificate will represent coursework which exceeds what most dioceses require for catechetical certification.

  • Completion of all five 300-level catechism courses
  • Completion of two catechetical methods courses
  • Completion of two scriptures courses or four online scripture related seminars
  • Completion of two elective courses or four online seminars

Diocesan Catechetical Certification
CDU partners with many dioceses to provide certification training for catechist. Our program provides a faithful and systematic approach to of Catholic doctrine, Sacred Scripture, Catholic morality, and appropriate catechetical principles and methods. With all courses offered using a distance learning format, catechists have the flexibility to work on certification from home eliminating the need to attend meetings and classes. CDU’s Advanced Catechists Certificate is designed to exceed the clock hours of most diocesan certification programs.

Program Time Limits
Students have four years to complete the A.C.C. program .

Leave of Absence
For serious reasons, a student may apply for a leave of absence until he or she is able to resume study. During this leave, elapsed time does not accrue toward the maximum completion time allowed for finishing the degree. A letter requesting leave should be addressed to the dean of catechetical programs.

Withdrawing From a Course or a Program
A student may terminate enrollment in a course or program at any time by notifying the university; however, a student is advised to do so in writing for his or her own protection. Refunds will be granted on request, according to the program satisfactory policy. Written withdrawal request should be sent to: Continuing Education Registrar, The Catholic Distance University, 120 East Colonial Highway, Hamilton, VA 20158.
