Meet CDU faculty

Daniel G. Van Slyke, STD, PhD
Dr. Daniel Van Slyke teaches sacraments, sacred liturgy, historical theology, and systematic theology to seminarians, permanent diaconate candidates, and lay adult students, both in the classroom and online. Originally from Upstate New York, Dr. Van Slyke did his undergraduate studies in philosophy and Christian culture at St. Michael's College, University of Toronto. He holds an M.A. in theology from the University of Dallas, an S.T.L. in theology from the University of St. Mary of the Lake, and a Ph.D. in historical theology from Saint Louis University. With special interests in Christian worship and ancient Christian history, Dr. Van Slyke has lectured widely, delivered numerous academic papers, and published articles in various venues, including Ephemerides Liturgicae, The Homiletic and Pastoral Review, The Josephinum Journal of Theology, New Blackfriars, The New Catholic Encyclopedia, and Usus Antiquior. His most recent book, Liturgy 101: Sacraments and Sacramentals, was published by Ligouri Press in 2010. He and his wife Laura have seven children: Mary Magdalene, John Andrew, Mary Morningstar, Martha Bethany, Jerome Maximilian, Josephine Felicity, and Damian Augustine.
