SCRPT 310. Reading Scripture Theologically
What is the key to understanding Scripture? What is the relationship between Scripture and Tradition? Where does the historical-critical approach fit into a faithful Catholic interpretation of the Bible? This course is an introduction to a theological approach to reading Scripture that seeks to answer these questions. This course will approach Scripture as the inspired Word of God, paying particular attention to the unity of the whole story of salvation, which was revealed for the sake of drawing us into a loving relationship with God and neighbor. Students will be guided by great Patristic and Medieval Saint-theologians, as well as the contemporary scholars who follow them. Upon successful completion of the course, students acquire the basic tools for interpreting the Bible from the heart of the Church. This course includes written lectures, audio lectures, and online discussions.
