Master of Arts (Theology)

  • Provides serious, systematic study of dogmatic, moral, and sacramental theology, Scripture, philosophy, spirituality, and Church history.
  • Provides the solid foundation in Church teaching to qualify individuals to seek professional careers in the Church or to give the necessary tools to those already involved in Church work.
  • Requires an official transcript showing an undergraduate degree earned from an accredited college or university.
  • For those whose native language is not English, requires a minimum TOEFL exam score.

MA in Theology and Educational Ministry

The MA in Theology and Educational Ministry  is a variation of the standard graduate theology degree, specifically tailored to Directors of Religious Education (DREs), secondary school teachers, and catechists. This MA program option requires 36 credits, culminating with a program portfolio and reflection paper.

Graduate Certificate in Sacred Scripture

  • Offers Sacred Scripture study at the graduate level without the requirements of a full Master’s program.
  • Includes 18 credits, with one required course and choices for electives.
  • Credits earned may be applied toward the CDU Master of Arts Degree (Theology).


Graduate Certificate in Church History

  • Offers Church History study at the graduate level without the requirements of a full Master's program.
  • Includes 18 credits, with 3 required courses and choices for electives.
  • Credits earned may be applied toward the CDU Master of Arts Degree (Theology).

Graduate Certificate for Catholic Educators

  • Offers coursework to provide sound religious formation for Catholic youth and adults and accurate information to discuss the Faith with who may be seeking a faith life or are otherwise unaffiliated with the Catholic Church without the requirements of a full Master's program.
  • Includes 18 credits.
  • Credits earned may be applied toward the CDU Master of Arts Degree (Theology).

Completion Program for a Bachelor of Arts in Theology

  • Offers students the ability to earn an accredited bachelor's degree after completing a minimum of 80 undergraduate credits from an accredited institution, including general education requirements.
  • Requires successfully completing 40 additional credits in theology to earn an accredited BA degree with a major in theology.
  • Provides a systematic knowledge of the Catholic faith at a collegiate level.
  • Develops competency and confidence in the essential teachings of the Catholic Church using Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the documents of the Magisterium, with a special emphasis on the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Documents of the Second Vatican Council.
  • Requires proof of a high school diploma.
  • For those whose native language is not English, requires a minimum TOEFL exam score.

Associate of Arts in the Liberal Arts with a concentration in Catholic Studies

  • Emphasizes the Catholic intellectual tradition.
  • Offers a fully online liberal arts program for the professional development of catechists, parents, aspiring Catholic school teachers, those seeking a career in the Catholic Church, and anyone else who may later want a higher degree in the liberal arts.
  • Provides eligibility to earn an online bachelor's degree in theology at CDU.
  • May be applied toward degrees at the following Catholic colleges, enabling the AA graduate to earn a bachelor’s degree in a variety of fields and enjoy a campus experience at a reduced cost of a four-year campus-based education:
    • Mount Saint Mary’s University, Emmitsburg, Maryland.
    • Belmont Abbey College, Belmont, North Carolina.

Catechetical Diploma

Provides a systematic program of study to become a confident and well-qualified catechist.

  • Awards a recognized ecclesiastical teaching certificate.

Continuing Education Programs

Offers a carefully-designed curriculum of doctrinal, moral, and spiritual formation
Includes six Non-credit Certificates:
